*PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE AN F150* If your F-150 has an EPAS (Electric Power Assist Steering) system, disconnect the negative battery for at least 15 minutes before you touch the tie rods. Also, no impact guns on tie rods. This has been known to damage the EPAS system and it's not cheap to replace. Install: Driveway mechanic, did it with a friend in about 3 hours. The first side was 2 hours, other side just 1. Not really all that hard if you've done this sort of thing before. Adjustment: 1.25 adjustment in front, brought front up to really around 1.75 and it might end up around 1.5 after a while. Truck looks very level but measured a 1.5 rake (that's perfect, I still tow a good bit and want that). Ride Quality: Doing the rear Bilstiens (at stock height) made a BIG difference in body roll, axle hop, and didn't affect ride quality at all. It was very seamless. Doing the front Bilstiens leveled the truck nicely, and further increased the firmness of the truck. It's not rough riding, but it's not as plush as stock. Body roll tightened up a bit more, cornering now feels like I can hang on long before I dip down and loose control. I don't drive this truck hard, but I didn't like how floaty it felt. That's all gone. Who this is for: 1. Inexpensive way to level truck with some adjustments, while firming up ride a bit. 2. If you leave shocks at stock height, you get the same suspension height as factory with less body roll and a little firmer ride. Who this isn't for: Someone who wants OEM plush-ness or even softer. That's pretty much it. Final thoughts: These shocks are better than factory in every way (even how they mount to the lower control arm). Cost is very fair for how good they are. I've run them on multiple vehicles and they always are reliably good.

I installed these myself pretty straightforward. Took a total of about 3 hours. Make sure you have a good quality spring compressor. The one I had was not sturdy enough to compress the oem springs. I borrowed one from auto zone that worked great. Also some pretty good you tube videos out there to guide you along with the uninstall and install. Ride quality was greatly improved. Took a lot of the swaying boat feeling out of my drive. I only wish I had also purchased the rear shocks as well.

Couldn't be happier. Installer warned about ride quality if they were set at 2.1, but I notice absolutely no difference. Looks great leveled out and the ride is nice. Threw on some 295/60/20 Nitto Grapplers on my 20 PVD wheels after and they fit perfect.

Bought these shocks after much research. Couldn't really find out where everyone was taking height measurement . Talked to tech at Bilstein who recommended taking the measurement at the pinch weld behind the step tube that runs the length of the cab. It was about 2 1/2 inces difference front to rear . Installed the shocks / struts set on the 3rd groove (1.79 in ). Measured after install and had about 1 in front to rear difference wich looks great . Not as stiff as I thought for pre loading the springs .The ride definitely improved, altough I think the steering feels lighter. Overall definitely the way to go over the spacer on top of the strut. The UCA does not hit the spring when the truck is lifted either. To complete the install I installed 275/60-20.

I'm a sales rep at Dave Smith Motors and had a customer come in wanting to buy this truck. His trade in already had these shocks and he was adamant that we use these on his new one. Most distributors said these were 3 weeks out and that wasn't going to work for me or my customer so I found Stage 3 Motorsports. Had them here in just 2 days! Our shop put them in in no time and our customer was ecstatic! I will not hesitate to purchase these shocks or from Stage 3 again and again!

So far have been loving the new look. The ride it's a little but stiffer on the small bumps but one the big ones it's smooth as butter. Over all only issue has been the alinement. Installed them drove it for 2 days had it aligned and 3 weeks later it was all ready out of alinement. Don't know if it was it settling or the shop didn't tighten things. Over all it's been holding up well.

Straight forward install. I love that they ran the lower mounts with bolts instead of studs like factory so you are not trying to coax the lower control arm down enough to get them in. I set them on the highest setting and the ride is night and day from my factory 75k mile struts. Smoother, more planted and not floaty. Made room for my 34s. Very happy customer. Time to match them in the rear I suppose.

Had dealer install when they did some axle seal work so I cannot comment on install process. I have these set at 1.76, and the height is about the same as the 2" spacer lift that was previously installed. I think they will settle a bit so I'll end up with a little more rake, but that's OK since I tow and want a bit. On 275/70-18 tires, my wheel well height is 39.25in. The ride improvement was noticeable but not dramatic. (I changed rears about six months ago, and that is a dramatic improvement.) These take speed bumps much better than stock and tighten up corners a bit. Overall, I am very happy with these in the few days I've had them installed.

Customer Question I currently have the fox 2.0 adjustable coilovers. Would I be able to reuse the top hat and spring from the fox coilovers?

Asked by: Brandon - 9/17/2025
Customer Answer We've never taken the Fox coilovers apart to see if they would work with any strut assemblies. We would recommend using top mounts made for the stock F150 strut assemblies which can be easily found at your local parts house.

Customer Question I have a stock 2020 F150 Crew with 5.5' bed. The current rake is about 2.75". I'd like to get to about half that, I'd like to keep some rake. Just wondering if the typical finished install height is close to the strut setting or does it end up a bit higher (or lower). Just trying to decide if I should go with the .79" setting or the 1.26". Id like to keep it as low as possible to get the best ride quality.

Asked by: John Mitchell - 5/6/2024
Customer Answer The lift heights are actual height you will get when used in combination with good condition factory springs. 2.75" rake is not normal in the 15-20 F150 with all factory components so you may have some worn springs or front shocks causing you to be lower than normal in the front, or you just have a taller than the 1.25" factory block in the back. Typical rake is closer to the 2.25".

Customer Question Could I use these with a Zone 6 inch lift kit ,throwing out the supplied 6 inch front spacer and replacing with a 3.5 inch spacer? Setting the Bilstein front shocks at 2.1 would net 5.6 inches of lift with a better ride and longer shock travel compared to the stock shocks without the expense of a full coil over replacement.

Asked by: Chad Hanson - 11/29/2023
Customer Answer We've never tried that combination so we could not confirm ride quality, but you would be much better off keeping them at stock height for ride quality and just keeping the 6" spacer. Replacing one spacer for a shorter spacer isn't really going to change anything on the ride quality. The 5100 will ride better at stock height than they will at full max height.

Customer Question I am currently running the zone 6" on and 18 2.7 ecoboost. Front end sits at 44.5" on 35" tires. At 1.2" setting will I have issues with the CV angles? You guys used the boss coil overs on a 15 with the zone kit at 1". Did that set up and the AAL out back require any additional drive shaft spacers?

Asked by: Mp2 - 4/5/2023
Customer Answer We don't recommend using the 1.2" setting. The 6" Zone lift is really just a "tall" 4" lift kit, so it's already throwing off the front geometry at its base height. You might be able to use a shorter setting, but we can't really guarantee it. If you're going to use an Add-a-Leaf, you may need a main driveshaft spacer. We used Pro Comp's 90-4107B on our 2009-2014 7.5" lift kits.

Customer Question I have a 6inch lift could I get it to 8inches with these?

Asked by: Clay - 2/25/2022
Customer Answer In theory, you potently could se the 5100s higher and squeak out some more ride height for your lift kit. HOWEVER, you need to be careful, since some 6" lift kits are really just "tall" 4" lifts that use 4" crossmembers, but taller strut spacers which already throws off your truck's suspension geometry. If that's the case with your lift, adding 2" more height would be a bad idea. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 or email us at [email protected] so we can get more specific about the lift kit you have on your truck.

Customer Question I just want to make sure I understand the application correctly: these will utilize the stock spring and perch just adjust to the desired ride height. What is the difference between this model and the 6112?

Asked by: Travis Prieto - 12/2/2021
Customer Answer These strut assemblies reuse the stock spring, spring perch, spring isolator, upper frame mount, and hardware. Ride height is set using the stock spring perch and an included c-clip. The main differences between the 5100s and the 6112s is that the 6112s come with their own springs, have a larger diameter shock body, and are more tuned for off-road/trail use than the 5100s.

Customer Question 2018 F150 with the 5.0 would these set on 2.1 allow clearance for either/both 275 65 20 or 285 60 20 on a 20x9 with +18 offset with no trimming.

Asked by: Ryan - 11/21/2021
Customer Answer The 275/65R20 would probably be pretty tight, since that works out to a 34" tire. Any trimming would likely be minor. A 285/60R20 should be fine unless your articulating and turning off-road pretty hard.

Asked by: MWin - 2/19/2020
Customer Answer Yep. There's no reason why you can't mix two different brands, though it's generally a good idea to at least stick with similar types of front and rear shocks.

Customer Question I have these on my 2015 F150... Is it possible to lower it a setting or two while it's still on the truck or is that just not recommended? I'd like to test ride comfort with the various settings.

Asked by: Jared C - 11/13/2019
Customer Answer The real issue is that it's extremely difficult to compress the F150's springs due to their size and spring rate, and we strongly recommend using a floor or wall-mounted spring compressor, which necessitates removing the coilover assembly. It's not impossible with the right portable spring compressors, but most just can't handle the strain and it's not worth getting yourself hurt (or worse).

Asked by: E.P - 9/2/2019
Customer Answer These strut assemblies will feasibly work with a 2" spacer, though you would need to keep them on their .79" ride height setting so that you don't push your suspension geometry too far out of whack.

Customer Question I installed these on a 2018 f150 fx4 scab with 6' box. I ended up getting about 2.75 inches of lift. Have you heard of this before? Do I need to be concerned that I did something wrong on install? Everything seems to be working great, ride is great. It just gave me more than I expected.

Asked by: Nate - 8/27/2019
Customer Answer If you're measuring high, it's most likely due to how you're measuring or due to the spring not settling back after install. You should measure from the center of the hub to the fender lip on a flat surface. The spring can also take a few hundred miles to settle in to the 5100s after install, which could give an overly high measurement right after install.

Customer Question Can the height setting be adjusted while on the truck, or only off. is there a tool needed for changing.

Asked by: Jeff - 5/23/2019
Customer Answer I've heard of folks doing it, but we definitely do not recommend it. Changing ride heights The factory springs are extremely strong, and most portable spring compressors can't handle them. We strongly recommend using a floor or wall-mounted spring compressor which necessitates removing the entire strut assembly to change ride height.

Customer Question If I install the front 5100’s at 1.75 setting, would they still clear a 295/60r20? Or would it just be better to go with the 2.10 setting?

Asked by: Cray10 - 3/13/2019
Customer Answer That's going to depend entirely on what wheel you're using, specifically its width, backspacing and offset. In general, fit will be pretty tight at 1.75" of ride height with that tire, and you'll probably see at least some rub. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about what wheel you're using.

Customer Question What’s the biggest size tire that will fit with this installed on a 2018 F150. Using the factory 18” rims.

Asked by: Jorge - 2/19/2019
Customer Answer The biggest tire we generally recommend for this kit is a 33x11.50" or close metric equivalent to avoid all chances of rubbing. On the stock wheels, you can usually go a smidge taller, though you do have to be careful with width due to the crash bars. Something like a 285/70R18 or 295/65R18 would work. If you don't kind a bit of rub, you could look at something like a 295/70R18 or a 305/65R18.

Customer Question If I put these on a 2WD truck, are there any issues I may come across? Also, is it true they may provide a bit more height than the 2WD version?

Asked by: David - 2/10/2019
Customer Answer The only potential issues are the ride height difference and a potentially stiffer ride than on a 4WD truck. They will provide a slightly taller ride height than the RWD version, but it's in the neighborhood of .25" to .50".

Customer Question Do you use the stock spring with these? Can you comment on how the spring rate compares between stock, the Blisten 6112, fox or the Ebiach's?

Asked by: sammy - 1/28/2019
Customer Answer The 5100s require you to reuse the factory spring. The stock springs have a spring rate of 500in-lbs to 550 in-lbs depending on your truck's package options, the Bilstein 6112s use a 500in-lb spring, and the Eibach Pro-Lift Springs have a linear 525in-lb spring rate.

I just want to ensure the 2wd ford factory coil and hardware will work with them. I'm wanting a complete level and from what I understand the 2.1" won't quite get me there.

Customer Answer This kit will technically bolt up just fine to an RWD F150, and you'll generally get 1/4" to 1/2" more front ride height than what they're rated form on a 4WD F150. That being said, it takes about 2.5" of leveling to get these trucks "dead-level" so you still may be a little short.

Customer Question Hi, I plan to purchasse this shock, but before i would like to Know if this shock can help to absorb the small road cracks and bunp(like across bridge sections) .With my set up , i don’t like the ride qualité on road. I felt all little imperfections on the road . Now i have Pro Ryde ajustable lift kit at 2.5 level with aftermarket Tuff Country upper control arm(standard ball joint) with 35-12.5 -20 tire. I want as ready as possible to retrieve my factory ride , but keep the 2.5 front level with my Tuff Country UCA. My plan is to replace the Factory Ford shock with this bilstein and set the shock with my ProRyde spacer for a total of 2.5 po of front level. Do you Know if it’s a good idea for my issue. And if yes , what is best level for the shock and also for the ajustable ProRyde Spacer for a total of 2.5 front level. Or do you have any idea to resolve my on road ride? Thank Martin

Asked by: Martin Deguise - 9/7/2018
Customer Answer If you want to keep 2.5" of leveling, your best bet would be to use these Bilstein 5100s and just set them at a 0" factory ride height on their snap rings, and then use your ProRyde kit on top of the Bilsteins. The Bilsteins will help improve your truck's ride, though you should probably also do rear shocks, since it's the rear instability of the F150s that's the root cause of most ride quality issues.

Customer Answer Essentially, yes. While we've had folks change ride heights on-truck, you often have to put your life in the hands of a portable spring compressor, very few of which can handle the F150's stock springs.

Customer Question What size tire can I get away with if I put this on a 2015 F150 xlt Sport 4wd?

Asked by: Dylan - 2/7/2018
Customer Answer That's going to depend entirely on what wheels you're going to be using with your truck, specifically their widths, offsets, and backspacing. In general, the biggest tire we usually recommend to avoid all rubbing issues and clearance issues with future parts (UCAs, remote reservoirs, etc.) is a 33x11.50", though you can potentially fit both taller and wider tires depending on your wheels, other suspension mods, and what kind of trimming you're willing to do. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about your plans.

Customer Question Will these be ok at the .79” setting and a set of 2” strut spacers? Looking at getting a little more than the 2” max that these provide on their own.

Asked by: Jerry - 1/26/2018
Customer Answer The strut assemblies will be fine. However, at 2.79" of front leveling, your truck will likely have pretty noticeable rear rake and your UCAs will likely come into contact with your coil spring when articulating up and down. You can technically still do it, though we'd recommend jumping up to an aftermarket UCA if you're planning on heading off-road at all.

Customer Question If I install these in conjunction with a zone 6 inch lift kit what is the max I'd be able to raise the struts without causing problems?

Asked by: Daniel - 9/15/2017
Customer Answer We'd recommend not going higher than their 1.26" ride height setting, and even then, you'll need to check to ensure your truck's suspension geometry isn't overly thrown off, that your brake lines aren't overly stretched, and that you're not going to need a larger front driveshaft spacer or a main driveshaft spacer.

Customer Question I have a 2016 F150 with a Readylift 7" lift. I want to use these at 0" of lift to replace the factory front shocks and use the Readylift strut spacer. My question is about the rears - is there a Bilstein 5100 series shock for the rear of a lifted F150? What's the part number/link? Thanks!

Asked by: Ken - 9/13/2017
Customer Answer Unfortunately, Bilstein does not currently have an F150-specific 5100 rear shock meant for 6" lifted applications. However, if you call us directly at 623-434-5277, we may be able to find one of Bilstein's universal 5100s with the correct length and travel for a 6" lifted F150.

Customer Question Generally speaking, will this kit allow me to fit 35" tires? I will be using 2011 Raptor wheels on a 2017 FX4.

Asked by: Joel - 9/5/2017
Customer Answer Not without having rub issues or needing to trim. How much of an issue you'll have is going to depend on how wide of a tire you're going to use. In general, to fully clear a 35x12.50" tire without any rub, you'd need a 4" suspension lift kit. However, you can finagle 35" tall tires on 2.5" leveling kits with the right combination of offset, tire width, trimming, and/or off-road bumpers with more clearance. However, you will have a difficult time fitting on 35" tires at the Bilstein's maximum 2.10" ride height settings.

Customer Question What is the maximum leveling lift you can go before you need to change your UCA?

Asked by: Yancy Blanchard - 7/12/2017
Customer Answer In theory, you don't have to change your F150's Upper Control Arm at all up to 3" of lift, however, you will start to get spring contact on the factory UCA when you start to go over 2" of front leveling. If your F150 is 100% street-driven, then a UCA is not a necessity for the Bilstein 5100's amount of leveling. If you're going to be fully articulating your F150's front end at all, then an aftermarket UCA is definitely not a bad idea.

Customer Question If I also want to add a Fab Four replacement bumper (100+lbs) and I set the shock at their max, 2.10, what kinda outcome and I looking at. Do you recommend doing shocks and a strut spacer too or is that to much on the front suspension?

Asked by: Dirty D - 6/15/2017
Customer Answer You have to keep in mind that any replacement bumper ends up having a NET increase in weight, since you do have to remove your stock bumper to install the thing. The factory bumper weighs about 60lbs (depending on options and whether it has fog lights), so you're only seeing a net increase in weight of 40-80lbs depending on what Fab Fours bumper you're going with, which is a trivial amount of weight compared to the curb weight of the truck's front end, and you should still at least be close to the Bilstein's 2.10" front ride height even with a large off-road bumper.

Customer Question Any chance this will fit a 2013 f150 3.5 ecoboost?

Asked by: Tony - 5/26/2017
Customer Answer This particular kit will not. However, a version for the 2009-2013 F150s is located right here.

Customer Question Could I use these to get another inch or so with a 6in lift to help clear 37s or just help level out the truck more?

Asked by: Dillon - 5/15/2017
Customer Answer You technically can, though the ride height increments are 0", .79", 1.26", 1.75", and 2.10". We'd recommend starting out on the lowest and then working your way up while making sure you're not overly stretching your brake lines or pulling out your driveshaft.

Customer Question Is an alignment needed if using the full 2" level?

Asked by: B - 2/23/2017
Customer Answer We strongly recommend an alignment with any leveling kit or lift in order to correct toe angle and prevent abnormal tire wear.

Customer Question With these set at the highest setting and an AAL, how much rake will I have? also will I be able to fit 33X11.5 tires? thank you

Asked by: Matt - 1/3/2017
Customer Answer You'll have nearly the same amount of rake as you would've had stock. The 5100s maximum 2.10" ride height setting still leaves a hint of rake, and then you'd be adding 1.5" of ride height in the rear with your average add-a-leaf kit.
