Here is my experience hands on with the tuner and some other mods...bought my truck 5/23/16...got a friend who has a 2015 f150 Screw 3.5 ecoboost 2x2...first race 0-60, both trucks bone stock, he jumped me a full truck length and kept on going and by 60mph he had a 2 truck lead on me. Now keep in mind his is a 2x2 vs 4x4 plus I'm running a 3.31 rear gear with 31 tires vs his 3.55 rear gear and I'd say 27 diameter or less tires on his, not sure about but positive on mind...Here's what I've done to mine from Stage3motorsports...SCT x4 Tuner w/87, 89, 93 perm/tow tunes, BBK 85mm throttle, aFe Magnum force pro 5R CAI, and a MBRP 3 XP Series Single Side Exit Cat-Back Exhaust...So I install all upgrades the same day and tune truck with 5 Stars 93 perm/tow via SCT x4...Time to meet up again with the 3.5 turbo 2x2...We hit the Gas he jumps me only a quarter of a truck length and pulled just a little from 0-60 but my front end was still in front of his back tire when we hit 60...BIG difference over stock!!! I've had the tuner and tunes now since 7/20/16...So Now to let you know what has really impressed me with the upgrades and tuner...GAS MILAGE...now all my test were done on a full tank to empty..first month with the truck bone stock using 89 and driving like grandma I was able to average 18.2 mpg mixed city and hwy...with the upgrades and 93 perm/tow driving like grandma 20.7 mpg...also switched to the 89 perm/tow tune after the next fill up and averaged 19.4 mpg...Temps here in SC have stayed about the same everyday through all test...never tried the 87 Perm/tow tune...Now I will say that when playing and give'n her a gallon at the red light or merging on the interstate with a heavy foot that both tunes and stock, I averaged around 17.2 mpg...I think the tuner deals more with the way the transmission shifts more than anything but I'm sure it ups the timing a bit too... that's a big difference in mpg over stock if you drive to save gas!!! Love the Shifts, Performance and gas savings from my set up and will probably never own another truck without a tune!

Totally worth it, one of the best purchases I've made for my F-150. I'm running 37 tires with 4.88 gears and these guys nailed the turning dead on with one attempt. FYI - those of you with oversize tires....the custom tune will correct your speedometer.

Awesome product! I have a 2016 5.0 V8 with 6 inch lift and 35 inch all terrain tires. I was averaging around 12.6 mpg mix between city and highway on stock. I bought the 87,89, and 91 performance/tow tunes. I installed the 87 performance/tow first...after 1500 miles so far my average is now at 15.0 mpg! I am very pleased with the product so far! I bet it can only get better with the higher octane! The extra HP is nice too!:-)

First time ever using a tuner. The product was just as advertised. The custom tunes are dead on. I have the 93 race installed right now. It run a bit faster and is louder. But the best is the shifting a lot smoother and when your on it it bangs just a race car. Awesome!!!!

I installed the tune for 89 octane and there is a very big difference in throttle response, shifting and power. I won't even bother putting my 91 octane tune in. Very happy with the tune and the little bit of customer support I needed.

All I have to say is wow! I went with the Performance and Tow 91 Octane Tune and wow the perfromance has improved quite a bit. The reason why I bought the tune was for my larger tires 295/55R20, MBRP 3-3.5 exhaust, K&N Cold Air Intake and a BBK 85mm Intake manifold. You can say I have made this quite the performance machine and with the Tuner it has made my truck come ALIVE!

Installed 93 performance/tow tune difference is day and night. I think the new shift points help more than anything as far as mileage its about the same but it's hard not to get into it a lot. I've put a magna flow exhaust, leveling struts and 275/70-18 KO2's since I installed the tune so I'll send in for another tune. Finally I think the the tuner is the best upgrade I've done so far.

5 Star provides the best tunes for money spent. Trust me, I went with bigger named companies that don't come close for the gain I received. The SCT X4 is like a bic lighter, throw it away when it loses you're stock tune and windows can't find it connected. Don't fall into the $100 RMA deal, they can't fix them. Just buy another and save the extra aggravation and down time. 5 Star gets 5 stars...SCT not even close.

Customer Question I have a rough supercharger with a custom tuned ECU. Will this tuner delete the speed limiter?

Asked by: Cody - 10/13/2022
Customer Answer Technically, yes, but if you already have a tune for a Roush Supercharger, this device would overwrite it. Your much better bet would be to talk to your current custom tuner and see if they can remove or bump up your speed limiter.

Customer Question What are the notable differences between the 93 performance/tow tune and the 93 performance tune? Such as drivability, responsiveness and power increase. Thank you in advance.

Asked by: Chris - 9/4/2022
Customer Answer The 93 Performance tune has higher power than the Performance/Tow, along with extremely fast and very hard shifting. The Performance/Tow tunes aren't as powerful, and while shifting isn't as harsh as the Performance tunes, it's still pretty firm. The Performance/Tow tunes tend to have better drivability than the Performance tunes.

Customer Question Will this tuner be able to adjust the speedometer to accommodate for larger tires on a 2017 F-150? Also, will my truck already having a JLT intake on it affect the tune at all? Thank you for the help.

Asked by: Christopher Wilde - 10/11/2019
Customer Answer This tuner can adjust your speedometer for larger tires, though you will need to know your tire's revs per mile. A JLT intake should not effect 5-Star's tuning, especially if you mention it on your submitted tune sheet.

Customer Question If you order this with the three custom tunes you can choose from, are they already programmed on the device when you get it or do you still have to do the email thing?

Asked by: Heath - 1/17/2019
Customer Answer The tunes will not come pre-loaded on the device. You will need to use the X4 to pull information we need for your tunes (i.e. strategy code), which you'll then submit (along with all your other vehicle information) on our online tune form. Once 5-Star receives your tune form, they'll create your tunes and then send you an email to download them directly from our Google Drive.

Customer Question Can you correct speedometer with this for larger tires?

Asked by: Andy - 10/26/2018
Customer Answer Yep. The X4 can correct your F150's PCM settings for larger tires. You'll just need to know the tire's revs per mile.

Asked by: Andy 2017 F-150 5.0 V8 - 3/22/2018
Customer Answer The X4 does not have tuning support for the 2017 F150s. The SCT BDX with 5-Star Custom Tunes does have support through the 2017 model year.

Customer Question Will this work for a 2017 F150 5.0 or just 15-16's?

Asked by: Pat - 9/30/2017
Customer Answer SCT does not currently have tuning support for the 2017 F150s on the SCT X4. That tuning support should be available soon, but currently this device only works on 2015-2016 F150 5.0Ls. If you don't want to wait, the very similar Bully Dog BDX with 5-Star Custom Tunes does have support through the 2017 model year.

Customer Question You sell both this SCT tuner and the Bully Dog BDX Tuner for the same price. Is there any differance between the two. They seem like they are running the same software. Would you reccomend one over the other?

Asked by: Brian - 12/20/2016
Customer Answer The Bully Dog has improved WiFi and is capable of using SCT's Cloud Tuning Service. In general, we're recommending the BDX device over the X4 for right now.

Customer Question Will this void the warranty of my 2016 f150? Also will this device save the stock tune?

Asked by: Alex - 11/13/2016
Customer Answer There is always a chance that your dealer or service center can discover that your vehicle is tuned and refuse to repair a given powertrain issue under the terms of your factory powertrain warranty if they believe the tune was the root cause. The X4 does store a copy of your factory tune in case you need to return to stock.

Customer Question Can you tune for 95 octane fuel ?

Asked by: Jaber - 9/25/2016
Customer Answer 5-Star can tune for other octanes besides what is offered in our drop-down menu. That being said, if you're outside North America, your fuel is rated using RON octane ratings, while our octane ratings use (R+M)/2 calculations, meaning that 95 octane RON is more or less equivalent to 91 octane (R+M)/2.

Customer Question I just got my 2016 5.0, traded in my 2014 5.0. Still have my SCT X4 from it, will it plug and play with my new truck. If not what are my options?

Asked by: Kevin - 9/15/2016
Customer Answer Your X4 will work in your new truck, if and only if you returned your old truck back to stock first and "unmarried" the tuner from its PCM. If you did not, then the tuner is still married to your old truck. You may also need to download the latest SCT firmware in order to get compatibility with the newer F150s, especially if your device was purchased a while ago. Also, and current custom tunes will not work on your new truck, though SCT's canned tunes should, assuming the device is unmarried and updated. If you want new custom tunes or if you have any trouble getting the device to work, give us a call directly at 1-877-578-2433.

Customer Question Do I need to change my spark plugs or regap them prior to installing a custom tune?

Asked by: Colby - 7/2/2016
Customer Answer The 5.0L F150s generally do not require new spark plugs or regapping their current spark plugs. Granted, if you have a lot of miles on your truck's current plugs, you may want to consider swapping them out for a new set.

Customer Question Can the speed limiter be removed or reset ?

Asked by: alvin - 6/20/2016
Customer Answer 5-Star bumps the speed limiter up to 125mph on non-warranty tunes. On warrantied tunes, the speed limiter is locked at the stock value. Frankly, we don't recommend going higher than 125mph, as that's about the maximum speed that the driveshafts can handle.

Customer Question ive already added k&N CIA airriad spacer and flowmaster outlaw system how does it work to add bolt ons with this tuner? Do i tell u what ive done or adding for tunes to work because id like to add a boss 302 intake with a 90 mm throttle body after i add this tuner

Asked by: derrick - 5/31/2016
Customer Answer After you receive your device, you'll need to look up your PCM strategy code and other information (you'll receive an email after you order that outlines the process more in-depth), then you'll fill out our online Tune Form, which has you list out your modifications. You'll then be sent a link to download your tunes once they're written. If you add modifications in the future, you'll basically just do the same process with a different online form. That being said, none of your current modifications actually require a custom tune, and you may want to wait and get a Boss Manifold package that includes a tuning device to avoid going through the process twice.

Customer Question Just ordered the x4 with 87 octane performance/tow and the 93 Race Tune for my 2015 F150 5.0. Have only ran the 87 tune but couldn't be happier with the power increase. I am curious to know the hp and torque increase from stock with the 93 Race tune? I also threw in a high air flow K&N air filter in the factory air box (not a CIA.)

Asked by: Adrian Mccammon - 5/19/2016
Customer Answer 5-Star's test truck made an extra 25 horsepower and 35lb-ft of torque using a 93 octane performance/tow tune. Their race tunes tend to produce a bit more peak power, and a drop in filter would help a little. You'll likely be at 30-35 horsepower and 45lb-ftish of torque using a 93 race tune, as a rough guess.

Asked by: Matt wiggins - 5/12/2016
Customer Answer 5-Star's Performance/Tow tunes are really the best for All-Around, general performance and drivability, regardless of octane or use of E85. If you are interested in e85 tunes, give us a call directly at 1-877-578-2433 so we can place a custom order for 5-Star's E85 tunes.

Customer Question I can remove the device once the tune is uploaded correct?

Asked by: Sab - 2/21/2016
Customer Answer Yup. The device uploads the the new tuning directly to your F150's PCM, where the tune is then stored until it's changed or returned to stock. One the upload is complete, you can remove the device from your OBD-II port.

Customer Question Does this reset your trucks personalized settings each time you load a tune? I read somewhere you had to reset your sync and dash settings after each tune is uploaded?

Asked by: Sab - 2/21/2016
Customer Answer For the vast majority of customers, there is no issue with their Ford Sync system keeping their settings when tuning their truck or when swapping between tunes. However, we have heard of customers losing their Sync settings and preferences, though it's extremely rare.
