Increase Rear Ride Height and Towing Capacity for your F150
2015-2020 F150s that do some serious towing or hauling are going to need more than a standard rear block in order to get the job done, and Auto Spring is here to help with their high-quality Add-a-Leaf kit for the 2015-2020 F150s. This pair of leaf springs install directly into your F150's stock leaf pack without any drilling, cutting or trimming, and add up to 950lbs of load support to your truck. The F150 Auto Spring Add-a-Leafs are also capable of increasing rear ride height by up to 1.5" to 2", giving your truck an aggressive look while helping keep your F150 level when you're towing or hauling all of your gear. The Auto Spring Add-a-Leaf Kit are perfect compliments to 2" leveling kits or coilovers, giving your F150 a mean look while letting you fit on proper-sized off-road tires.
High-Strength Leaf Springs That Reuse the Stock U-Bolts
Each one Auto Spring's F150 Add-a-Leaf Kits comes with a pair of high-quality leaf springs, new pins, and installation instructions. The springs are manufactured out of extremely strong, US-sourced 5160 tempered spring steel that allows them to hold up to just about any application that you have in mind. The springs also have Teflon pads on each end which reduce NVH and help prevent squeaking during break-in. The springs install directly into your F150's factory leaf pack and are completely compatible with your F150's factory U-bolts and rear shocks for most applications. Auto Spring includes a set of four new Grade 5 adapter pins for installation.

2015 F150
After placement of the 'add-a-leaf', the stock u-bolts were not long enough to allow for a full nut's length of thread. Both I and the Ford Dealership, doing the installation, agreed that this was not as safe as it should be; a full length minimum should be required to avoid any undo stress on the threads holding the spring assembly onto the axle. Longer u-bolts, not provided in the Stage-3 Add-a-Leaf kit, were obtained and used to complete the installation.

I have a capper, wood bench, extra battery etc...always in the truck, so with a full load it really starts to sag, or when towing, especially with my leveled front. I wanted to get rid of my sag and get some extra weight capacity and ended up giving this a try. First, it raised my back end about 1 3/4-2 inches, so I have a bit of the factory rake back. Second, I can have a full load in the back without sag. The ride isn't any worse than before, no bounce in the back. It's over 40 inches in length so it isn't some tiny spring that makes the ride rough..I would buy it again without hesitation.

Very easy to install (with car lift), I had an issue with squat do to carrying my RTT w/ bed rack, drawer system, fridge w/ fridge slide, 100ah Deep cycle AGM batt, camp stove....etc. these remedied that quick, gain my body clearance back. Would recommend these over helper springs.

Cannot comment on the install, strictly because $200 for 4wheelparts to install was cheaper than me dragging the jack out of the garage. Previously I had leveled the truck with 5100's. When I towed my 5k lb trailer I would have 2" sag in the rear. I decided to upgrade to a 10k lb trailer and knew I needed the help. As you can see from the picture, these things rock! I picked up just shy of 2" in the rear after install. To address the ride.... Shut up. You want a Cadillac, go get one. Its a truck. To say the ride is "slightly" more chopper would be a stretch. I will take the ride over looking like an idiot going down the road with my rear bumper dragging the road with a load on it.

This is just what I was looking for. I installed the Rancho Quick Lift Loaded combo on the front to level my truck but I was not satisfied with the look. Instead of installing an airbag suspension on the back like my previous truck in went with these and so far I am very happy with my decision. Install was a breeze and had no issues.

I had installed fox 2.0 coilovers on my truck for about 1.75' of lift leaving the rear nearly an inch higher than the front. A leer topper and 20k miles later the rear factory 1.5' block had allowed the back of the truck so sag nearly level with the front. Load some wood or gear in the back and the truck would go nose high and even hit the rear bump stops on rough surfaces. I decided to grab these AAL's and give them a try. I removed the factory block and put these in their place. The rear is back to an inch rake over the front and the ride is so much better! Possibly a little firmer ride but not harsh in any way and handling is much improved. If I ever buy a new f150 I will immediately remove the factory block and put these in. Not one complaint, easy install and a quality product that's worth the money. Took about two hours in my garage. If you put as much as a golden retriever in the bed of your truck you need these!

Excellent product and did exactly what was advertised. I hauled 1,500 lb. to 2,000 lb. pallets across town about 20 times recently and afterward I noticed my truck had permanently sunk 1.5. I bought this product to increase the hauling capacity and to get the lift back and it worked perfectly. I had a local company do the installation and they had no problems at all. It might be difficult to see the lift difference in the before and after pics because its only 1.5 , but its there if you look close enough. And I could tell immediately in person. I like knowing that I have that extra hauling capacity. I noticed no difference in the ride quality after installation. Thank you!

I have a 2018 F150 XLT. I purchased the truck and immediately installed a 2.5” front leveling kit. This set my truck within a 1/4” of perfect level. When towing a UTV my truck would squat significantly in the rear. I started looking for options to maintain the desired stance. After reading reviews I decided to purchase the add a leafs. I installed the add a leafs my self using jacks and jack stands. It took me about an hour. While installing I removed the factory blocks(1.25” blocks) and this set my truck right at 40” in the rear. This gives my truck a 3/4” rake and increasing the rear height by 1/2”. The ride quality hasn’t suffered much. You can feel a little stiffer ride but only slightly. The increased stabilization while towing is worth the slight stiffness in the ride. At 4000 miles in I’m very pleased.

After installing my Bilstein 5100 Leveling kit at the second from highest setting, the truck would squat with barely any weight in the bed (2.7l eco). I carry a deep tool box with about 200lbs of tools at all times and it felt like the truck was back heavy. Once I installed the leaf (left stock blocks in) the truck almost has a stock rake back, rides better, handles weight better, and tows better.

Added the perfect amount of lift to my truck and compensated for the extra weight of the Leer Cap I added. The Fox 2.0+the leer were a little too much to keep the truck level, so this provided a small amount of rake now that it has settled out. The only thing that would make this kit better would be included U-bolts for the application as I felt they could have been a little longer.

Works great, leveled my truck out perfect. I have a fiberglass topper on the back that made a difference in the stance, she now has the stance of a real truck with the add a leaf. Can't really tell a difference in the ride quality either, still rides great. Took about 4 hours to do both sides with no power tools. Pretty easy job.

This item is supposed to raise the rear end of your truck 1.5-2". After installing these leaf springs and a 2.7" lift to the front, my ride went from a 1.5" rake to a 1.25" squat ... meaning the rear end was lifted a whopping 0.05 inches. Additionally, the whole point of add-a-leaf springs is to prevent sag under load. Unloaded, there was 1.5" is space between the bottom of my Timbren SES and its base plate. After loading half a cord of wood, there was no more space in the SES. As far as I can tell, these leaves have done absolutely nothing for my truck's suspension. The only good thing I can say is that they're heavy steel. Unfortunately, they are also difficult to install, since you have to take your existing spring pack apart to install these leaves right above the bottom leaf in the factory spring pack. This product is not even close to the performance and convenience of Hellwig's Helper Springs and are actually more expensive. I wish I had found out about the Hellwig springs before I bought these add-a-leaf springs.

For the price point these leafs are super legit. Install per side is 30 minutes tops if you're mechanically inclined. I installed them and immediately towed 9k on stock shocks with no squat with 2" leveling pucks (previously installed before leafs) Before the Add a leaf, I had 2" leveling puck making full level no factory rake. After the add a leaf settled it return to factory like rake with the 2" leveling puck still installed, so if you're going to install these with no leveling or other suspension work, your rake is going to be utterly ridiculous.

My 2019 shocks felt mushy after 45K miles, so wanted to put some new shocks. At the same time wanted my truck to be little higher than factory setting. This is perfect combination if you ever want to upgrade your new shocks. Order Bilstein 5100 complete kits F&R, Spring rear add a leaf kit, and SPC HD camber & caster kit. After all the install, it lifted my truck 39" front and 40" in the rear (ground to fender). Basically 2" lift front and 1" lift in the rear, total of 39" F and 40" R. The best upgrade I've done for my truck. Rides very good, feels really grounded, little harder than factory shocks, but it feels good over freeways and local streets. I highly recombed these combos. Later when times comes, I'll do upper and lower control arms, nothing fancy, I like it just the way it is. Looks great and drives great.

I have a 3in lift kit, with rear blocks for the leaf springs. Will it affect anything or will I need anything special to add to the rear to adjust for the 1.5in of extra lift?
Asked by:

It really depends on the shocks extended length that you are currently using. Most shocks have a max extended length so you should would have to be able to extend another 1.5" beyond what they currently are. Give us a call to go over your current setup so we can see if you would need longer shocks to accommodate the extra lift. 623.434.5277

They cannot. If you need more ride height than what this add-a-leaf provides, you can pair it with a larger rear block of some sort. Just keep in mind, the factory shocks won't be able to handle that ride height, and you will need an aftermarket solution.

Are the rear shocks in the 2014-2020 F150 4WD FOX 2.0 Stage 1 Suspension Package FOX-14STAGE14WD be compatible with these aal? I haul a heavy trailer, and want to reduce the rear sag as much as possible. Really just want 1" of rear lift, but not sure blocks are the way to go.

The Fox 2.0 rear shocks are only capable of handling 1" of rear lift according to Fox, and this add-a-leaf kit adds slightly too much ride height for them to handle. The Fox 2.0s can handle up to a 2.50" rear block, if you want to go that route, or you can call us directly at 623-434-5277 or email us at

I have a friend that installed the AutoSpring Add a Leaf and once it settled it settled down .75” on the left and 1” on the right. Is that uncommon? With a stock block and stock tire size it’s sitting at 40” ground to fender on the left and 40.25” ground to fender on the right.
Asked by:
Jade
- 4/8/2022
It's not uncommon for the left (driver's side) to settle more than the right, due to the fuel tank being on the left. If you measure again with the fuel tank close to empty, you'll likely find it a bit more even (especially if your truck as a 36-gallon tank). I have a 2015 Ford F150 Platinum 4wd and just added a leer topper with rack. The truck has a 2.5 leveling kit but I have noticed slight lowering in the rear, maybe 0.5 - 0.75 inches. would this essentially relevel the truck and possibly give it a little rake? Thanks
Asked by:
Richard
- 8/30/2021
This somewhat depends on how heavy your topper is. Without constant weight, this add-a-leaf tends to provide about 1.5" of rear lift after break-in. With a constant load, you should at least get close to where you want to be. Personally, I think you'd win back a bit of rake, though it's hard to say how much.

In theory, since this Add-a-Leaf adds around 1.5" of ride height after break-in, so you would need to drop down to a 2.5" rear block to keep your current rake and general setup.

Asked by:

This add-a-leaf kit will lift the rear of your F150 by roughly 1.5" to 2", and a rear block would not be required. Neither method is inherently "better". Add-a-leaf kits are nice because they give you lift and load support, but they also tend to stiffen your ride by a bit. Rear blocks are nice, since they don't change your ride much at all, but they don't give you much benefit other than the ride height.

According to Auto Spring, it takes about 500-1000 miles depending on how you drive it and the condition of your roads. In general, it takes about 2.5" of leveling alone to get the 2015-2020 F150s at a near "dead-level" stance. Adding the Add-a-Leaf would leave you with some front rake.

I currently have a BDS 4" lift on F150 XLT 4WD. It has 4" rear blocks. When towing, even with the weight distribution hitch, i'm getting sag. What combination of reduced block size and this AAL kit would keep the ride height the same/similar unloaded and also prevent sag while towing.
Asked by:
rhervey
- 6/19/2020
That's really going to depend on how much you're towing and how much sag you're getting. In general, a 4" block adds about 2.5" of rear lift. In theory, if you do something like a 2.50" rear block that adds 1" of lift, and then top them off with an Add-a-Leaf kit, then you'll technically get the same ride height (after the springs break in, anyway) and get better load support than blocks alone. However, it's tough to say without knowing about your sag and load situation. Give us a call directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about your truck.

They offer less axle wrap and wheel hop than larger rear blocks. Most of the rear-end stability issues on the 2015-2020 F150s are caused by the
rear shocks
, and upgraded to a nice set of monotubes goes a long way to improving rear handling. Add-a-Leafs can help, though shocks are usually a better place to start.

Currently my max payload can only be 1880 lbs. With this 1300 lb hitch weight, this only allows me to have only 600 lbs left for me, my wife and two kids. What would this get me up to payload wise? And would I now be "legal" to drive this on the road? Thanks for the time!
Asked by:
AJ
- 3/13/2019
While these Add-a-Leafs add load capacity and definitely help you manage heavy loads and towing, you still cannot violate your truck's GVWR or GCWR due to legal and liability reasons if you get into an accident. More goes into a GVWR/GCWR calculation than just the truck's suspension, including the max load on the wheels and tires and how much load the brakes can handle. Unfortunately, that sticker on the door is pretty immutable in the eyes of both the law and insurance companies. Your better bet would be to look at a 5th wheel with less tongue weight.

As long as your have enough room on the rear block's U-bolts, there's no reason why you couldn't install this add-a-leaf kit. However, you'll need to double-check and make sure your rear shocks can handle the extra height and you may need a main driveshaft spacer (if your lift didn't already come with one) depending on how far your driveshaft yoke is outside of your transmission or transfer case.

Asked by:

You will likely need a driveshaft spacer, as well as new rear shocks, since this add-a-leaf kit would essentially put you at 3 to 3.25" of net lift after it settles, which is 4" lift kit territory. A 3" rear block should get you 1.5" to 1.75" inches of net lift depending on the size of your factory rear block (1.25" or 1.50" depending on year, submodel, and options). Frankly, I don't recommend going that high. Your better bet would be to get a smaller rear block and they possibly pair that with the add-a-leaf kit. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-44-5277 so we can get more specific about what you're trying to do.

Trying to level my truck and looking at the rear options. Adding Bilstein 5100s to the front at 2.1". Stock rear block is 1 1/4". Im wondering about installing a AAL rather than bigger rear blocks. However, im looking for less rake than stock if any at all. Mainly concerned about the truck going nose high with a load in the back. So im wondering if this AAL can be installed without reinstalling the factory block? With the factory block plus this and the 2.1" gain in the front, it would be too much gain in the rear for my taste. But at least the AAL would better resist sagging under load even if it only gains 1/4"-1/2" of rear lift if the block is removed.
Asked by:
Andy Davenport
- 11/10/2018
Your real issue is that even with the Bilsteins set at 2.1" of ride height, you'll still have a smidge of front rake. Even if you remove the stock rear block and install the add-a-leaf/leaf pack directly on the axle, you'll still gain enough rear height to give your truck rake (especially since it takes a few thousand miles for the leafs to settle to their 1.5" ride height). If you want to be dead-level (or close to it) unloaded, but want to avoid going nose-high when loaded, your much better bet would probably be an air spring system of some sort.

I have a 2015 F'150 157"WB 4x4 and recently installed the "2015-2018 F150 Stage 3 BOSS Trail Suspension Pack 2" kit on my truck to gain some extra ride height. Would I be able to install this AAL kit with the 3" blocks and shocks that were included on this kit without issue?
Asked by:
Shelton
- 11/7/2018
You would not be able to combine this add-a-leaf with a 3" rear shock and still use Halo Lift's rear shocks. They aren't long enough to handle that much ride height. Frankly, you'd have a ridiculous amount of rake with the combination and likely really weird handling, even if you did swap over to shocks meant for a 4" lift. The most rear lift that Halo Lift's BOSS 2.0 shocks can handle is 2" over stock, which means the most you could do is a 2" rear block and a 1.5" add-a-leaf kit. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about what you're trying to do.

What would be the pros and cons of doing the add a spring over a taller block?
Asked by:
Logan Ridenour
- 9/7/2018
Pros of an Add-a-Leaf over a block: Add-a-leafs increase load capacity (though still not your GVWR), aren't prone to axle wrap like larger blocks, and can be combined with larger blocks to fine-tune rear ride height if needed. Cons of an add-a-leaf over a rear block: stiffer rear ride quality (though that can mitigated with aftermarket shocks), more difficult installation, and they start out at about 2" of rear lift before settling to 1.5" which can give your truck a pretty stinkbug look until they're broken in.

If I ditch the factory 1.25" block on my 2016 SCREW FX4 and replace with this AAL, how much lift should I go with on adjustable coilovers to achieve approximately .75" of rake?
Asked by:
Mark
- 7/17/2018
Technically by the math, you'd need to be at 1.75" of leveling, but it's really tough to say since we both haven't done it before and add-a-leafs tend to start out a about 2" of ride height before settling down to roughly 1.5".

Asked by:

This add-a-leaf kit should not overly effect your F150's pinion angles or with your rear shocks. That being said, we do usually recommend getting shocks that are better suited for taller rear ride heights.

I'm looking to add this AAL kit as well as install Bilstein shocks. With the 5100 being rated for 0-1" of lift, do I need to step up to the 5160 on the rear?
Asked by:
Jake
- 5/16/2018
Technically speaking, you would need a 0-2" rated rear shock for this add-a-leaf kit like the 5160s, Halo Lifts Boss 2.0 Shocks, or ICON 2.0s. That being said, a lot of folks have used the Bilstein 5100s with an Add-a-Leaf Kit and not have had issues, though that does technically push beyond the rear lift that Bilstein rates them for.

I see a review mentioning the stock bolts are not long enough, has this issue been fixed? Can you add longer bolts prior to shipping?
Asked by:

- 3/23/2018
This kit does not come with longer U-bolts, and it's designed to be used with the stock U-bolts. When reinstalling the stock U-bolts, it's important to get them properly seated and to thread the nuts on evenly. Most folks only have issues if they quickly zip the nuts back on with an impact without ensuring even seating.

I have a 2017 F150 crewcab 4x4 that I am looking to put the Eibach pro truck kit on(struts with the Eibach coil up front and the rear shocks that come with the kit) which I understand leaves you slightly nose high almost a quarter inch. Is there maybe a smaller rear block I can use in conjunction with an add a leaf to get the truck level with the front or maybe just slightly taller in the rear?(less than 1.5”) And a different question, will the Eibach rear shocks work with the stock rear block and an add a leaf? Thanks
Asked by:
Andrew
- 3/11/2018
Unfortunately, no one currently manufactures a sub 1.5" rear block for these trucks, so you'd en up with a noticeable amount of rake if you added an Add-a-Leaf kit to your truck's rear. Technically, the Eibach Pro-Truck rear shocks are only rated to handle 1" of rear lift over stock. However, a lot of folks have used both 3" rear blocks and 1.5" add-a-leaf kits without issues.

I have a BDS 6" lift with the 5" rear block. BDS offers a 4" rear block. Would I see any benefit to the ride or payload capacity by switching to the 4" block and using this add a leaf to get back the height, basically replacing 1" of block height with 1.5" of spring height? Do you think there Would there be any issues using the U-Bolt that came with the lift?
Asked by:
Paul
- 2/23/2018
You still wouldn't be able to tow beyond your GVWR, so unless you're pushing your tongue weight close to its maximum, you likely wouldn't see too much of a benefit. That being said, the Auto Spring Kit will be more resistant to rear sag than just a larger block alone, so if you are seeing a decent amount of sag now, then doing the 4" block with the Auto Spring Kit may not be a terrible idea. The U-bolts that come with the 4" rear block should be adequate, though you will need to take care to tighten down the U-bolt nuts evenly to preserve as much thread as possible.

Is there a specific torque and order to re install?
Asked by:
Jay
- 12/19/2017
According to Auto Spring, the center pins need to be torqued to 45lb-ft, while the U-bolt nuts should be at 125lb-ft. While there's no set pattern for torquing the U-bolt nuts, it's generally a good idea to thread them on by hand to ensure they're evenly set before fully torquing them down.

You should be fine with that setup. There's no reason why you couldn't remove the rear block and run the springs right on the axle, since that's how the RWD F150s are setup and it's a common modification for 4WD folks that want to lower their trucks.

This Add-a-Leaf kit stiffened up our truck's ride quality by a bit, but that particular truck had a 6" lift with pretty "meh" shocks, and were trying to squeeze some extra height out of it. That being said, Add-a-Leaf Kits do tend to stiffen up your truck's ride by at least some extent, though using aftermarket shocks can help.

Hi I just bought a 2017 F150. The dealer added a level kit in the front (strut spacer) and it looks like it needs about an inch or so lift on the rear. Does this spring fit a 2017? If so how will it perform with the factory shocks?

Auto Spring has confirmed fitment on the 2017 F150s. When used with the factory shocks, ride quality can stiffen up by at least some extent, though the effect is a lot less noticeable when using aftermarket shocks.

You technically can, though you're going to need to be fairly careful and make sure your e-brake cable and brake lines aren't overly stretched or stressed, and if they are, you may need to get them extended. Also, you may need to add a driveshaft spacer or get a larger driveshaft spacer, as adding an Add-a-Leaf kit to a lift will generally cause your truck's driveshaft to slip from the yoke farther than just the lift kit alone. I would strongly recommend getting the driveshaft spacer a head of time.
