Borla Mustang exhaust system breakdown

Stage 3 Motorsports finally has Borla performance exhaust kits. Sorry it took so long. We were busy with stuff. Fun stuff, but stuff. Anyway, Borla. Borla has over 20 years experience in the performance exhaust industry. They got their start manufacturing premium exhaust components for Rolls-Royce and Ferrari and were pioneers into stainless steel systems. Their popularity exploded with the introduction of their S-Type mufflers for the Corvette, though they're better known by their affectionate street name, Borla ''Stingers.'' The Stingers are still around and have been finely honed into one of the best and most popular aftermarket muffler systems in the world across nearly every performance car ever made, EVER. Borla has steadily expanded their repertoire to include a few other muffler designs like the Touring mufflers, as well as full cat-backs and even a series of long tube headers. Given the massive amount of choices, it's time for a bit of a breakdown.

Starting at the quietest end of the spectrum, we have the Borla Touring kits. These kits, like all of Borla's exhaust systems, are manufactured from computer controlled , CNC machined austentic stainless steel for maximum durability and corrosion resistance. The Touring kits feature mandrel-bent tubing that helps reduce back pressure for decent power gains. Each Borla Touring kit features a good, throaty exhaust tone, without getting very loud. These kits are perfect for sleeper Mustangs, or anyone with a particularly strict HOA or the lamest neighbors on the planet. The Touring mufflers have a straight-through design, but are densely packed with sound-absorbing ceramic filaments that keep the volume down without adversely effecting horsepower or torque.

Next up, we have the world-famous Borla S-Types. These middle of the road mufflers give an excellent, throaty sound that gives your Mustang a big roar without being deafening. Yet, you know it when you step on the throttle and see your revs push the redline. Each Stinger muffler has a straight-through muffler design with an extremely high rate of flow that helps your engine breathe slightly better. The pipe and muffler diameters have been finely tuned to produce their characteristic sounds when slamming down the accelerator, without creating an annoying drone at idle or cruising speeds.

Last, and certainly not least, are the Borla ATAK kits. According to Borla, ATAK stands for ''Acoustically-Tuned Applied Kinetics,'' which roughly translated into English means ''these things are damn loud.'' Each ATAK series muffler uses a multi-core design with uniquely configured perforations to generate a clear, booming sound that stays just inside the borders of street legality for most areas, not to mention the borders of hearing loss at full throttle. These things are outright brutal, and Borla calibrates each one on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis to deliver a perfect exhaust tone for almost any application. Borla ATAK kits are for the Mustang pilot looking to part traffic with the exhaust noise alone.

If you're looking to gain as much power out of your exhaust system as possible for track or other competition use, then Borla has you covered with their XR-1 long tube headers and their off-road x-pipe. Borla's headers have massive 1-3/4'' primary tubes that are all mandrel-bent and fall into a a 2-3/4'' merge collector to practically eliminate back pressure and produce huge power gains. Borla's off-road x-pipe deletes that catalytic converters entirely and hooks up to any of Borla's cat-back kits to give your Mustang a complete Borla exhaust system for huge horsepower and sound gains.

On top of their legendary sound and quality, Borla backs up all of their exhaust kits with a million mile warranty. Honestly, there's nothing not to like about Borla's kits, except that your good friends at Stage 3 couldn't get them for you sooner, and we already apologized. Anyway, Borla gives you an excellent array of options to fit your specific application, and gives you great sound, versatility, durability and long-lasting quality.
