I have this package on my truck but with the Roush Exhaust. Huge difference! I had my truck put on a dyno before installing with just a Roush exhaust and Roush cold air intake and then I ran it on a dyno again after installing. To the wheels I gained around 50 HP and around 35 TQ. Not a bad gain if you ask me for simple bolt-ons and a tune. My gas mileage increases a little as well.

Now that the system is installed I am very happy with it except for the DCT code that remains. Installation was not as easy as depicted, Y'all need to have much better instructions or people without much mechanical knowledge will ruin systems. There is a Line that no longer connects anywhere which is the source of the code. no adverse conditions exhibited on the vehicle, I believe it runs to the purge or evaporation system.

Received all the items on time and in good condition. Took about 5 hours total to remove factory parts and modify the firewall to accept the new intake and install remainder of parts. Overall not a hard job. However the instructions are weak and leave a lot of unanswered questions on install process. The main problem I found was there was no info on how to accommodate the factory purge valve. If it is not properly reconnected, a driver info message indicates that the fuel door is open will come on each time the truck is started. Corrected this by adding a vacuum line from the intake to the purge valve problem solved. I would suggest that the instructions address this in the future as not everyone will understand what the problem is or how to correct it, Over all this has given me the Coyote I always knew was hiding under the hood. Great product and excellent performance upgrade!

I have put 3000 miles on since install, not one problem. The reliability and power is amazing. The truck is so smooth. The extra 1000 rpm on the top is so nice. It really does feel like a completely different truck. Headers are next.

I will say I was unsure if I would feel or notice any difference with the 302 boss kit that included 302 boss intake, 85mm throttle body, ace cold air intake, and act tuner.( 87 tow tune and 91 performance are amazing tunes from stage 5). After installing everything minus one part I feel a significant difference in power and response my truck really does feel alive so far it’s worth the purchase only issue I have is I was not informed with any tracking or info on items and was not informed that my bbk throttle body was on back order so I still have not received it yet it’s been about two weeks other then that definetly worth the buy just make sure nothings on back order

Customer Question Would you recommend truck being tuned after installing this?

Asked by: Eric-Reed Andersen - 3/14/2023
Customer Answer This kit comes with 5-Star custom tuning and an SCT device. Tuning is ABSOLUTELY required after installing the BOSS 302 manifold. Running that manifold without tuning could cause engine damage.

Customer Question How much power should I expect to gain from this 2011-2014 F150 5.0L S3M Phase 3 Performance Package S3M-F15050LP3

Asked by: Jamie Percival - 11/9/2021
Customer Answer We can't strictly guarantee any particular power number, especially as the 2011-2014 F150s are showing their age. That being said, gaining up to 50 peak horsepower 35 to 45lb-ft of torque at the tires aren't out of the question using the 91 octane or 93 octane tunes. 87 and 89 octane will see you get less.

Customer Question The F-150 has a tow/haul button standard. How does this feature interact with the tow/haul tunes?

Asked by: Sal - 3/26/2021
Customer Answer The Tow/Haul button and Tow/Haul Mode will still technically work in that it will alter shifting and gear-holding. That being said, 5-Star's tunes already significantly overhaul your truck's shift points, pressures, and throttle inputs (on top of adding power), so you'll probably find yourself using the Tow/Haul mode a lot less.

Customer Question I see you guys have updated the phase 3 package to where it doesn't come with cat backs anymore. is this true? if so, will this package still be compatible if I buy a complete aftermarket exhaust system? (everything from headers back)

Asked by: Hien Tran - 8/6/2020
Customer Answer This kit does not come with a cat-back any more, since a lot of folks would want to swap them out. None of the parts in this kit would have an issue with an aftermarket Y-pipe and cat-back system. However, you would need different tuning, and 5-Star is no longer tuning for off-road/cat-delete applications.

Customer Question Chris helped me on the phone. Installation video describes a hose that needs to be extended (heater core hose?). -Does the kit include the parts to do that? -Firewall brute force mod. Is there an alternative (one article mentioned removal of a bolt from the Boss302 allowed him to install without bending metal. Can you comment? -Can I get a list of the parts in the Boss302 kit? I didn't see one online. I need to know about gaskets, hose extension, etc, etc. I don't know exactly what I need to know but want to look before I leap. -With the Bully BDX tuner, does anything remain connected to the OBDII port? Or do I upload the programming to the ECM and disconnect? -The BDX tuner describes 5 custom and 5 included tunes. Does this mean I can install everything and be operable same day without completing the email/file download process first? Your help is appreciated. Jim

Asked by: Jim - 6/30/2020
Customer Answer 1). The Boss 302 manifold requires modifications to the stock EVAP purge valve. 5-Star includes instructions for accomplishing this. 2). If you can modify the manifold to avoid beating the firewall, we are not aware of it, though it would not surprise me if someone came up with another method over the years. 3). For a full list of parts and components, please call us directly at 623-434-5277. 4). The BDX tuner does not need to stay plugged into the OBD-II port. The tune is loaded and stored in your truck's PCM, and the device can be unplugged after the tune has been loaded. The BDX comes with SCT "canned" pre-loaded tunes, which won't be compatible with your Boss 302 manifold. This package comes with your choice of 5-Star custom tunes which will be emailed to you after you get us and 5-Star your truck's information via our online tune form. As long as you have 5-Star's tunes in-hand, you can install the manifold and load the tunes the same day.

Customer Question If I Get the phase 3 kit for a 2011-14 f150 5.0, will I still be able to put a twin turbo kit in my truck or will this kit get in the way of things for a twin turbo setup?

Asked by: Brandon - 11/27/2019
Customer Answer That'll largely depend on the turbo kit and kind of custom work you're willing to do. If you're using a typical setup that comes with new/custom exhaust manifolds where the turbos are mounted with hot side tubing going into a front-mount intercooler and cold side tubing going into the throttle body/intake manifold, then you shouldn't have too many issues. You'd just need cold side tuning that reaches to the Boss Manifold. The intake included in this kit, would likely be pretty worthless to you, however. Your turbos are going to need some sort of customized intake system, and the intake included in this kit will not work with turbos.

Customer Question 1) will this work with OEM exhaust? Actually I have an electric exhaust cutout. Many of the questions on this page you address a cat back system which this doesn't have. 2) Is this CAI filter dry? 3) is the Bully Dog a handheld or also a monitor that will mount to the windshield?

Asked by: Rob - 2/20/2019
Customer Answer 1). This kit will work with the factory exhaust. This package will work with an electric exhaust cutout, as long as it's post-cat for sound gains. If your cutout is pre-cat, then you'd really need tunes for both normal operation and the cat-delete operation. Your best bet would be to call us directly at 623-434-5277 so we can get more specific about your exhaust setup. 2). The filter included with the custom aFe intake in this kit has a dry, reusable media. 3). The Bully Dog BDX is a handheld tuner, though its screen is large enough to make it an adequate monitor when paired with its separate windshield mount.

Customer Question Can i use my knn air intakr with this kit instead of thevone with kit? Ty

Asked by: Joel - 10/13/2018
Customer Answer You cannot. The Boss 302 manifold requires a heavily customized intake in order to function, and an out-of-the-box K&N intake meant for the factory manifold will not work.

Customer Question I've heard there are problems in using this intake in an F-150 with an automatic transmission. Other than dressing the heat shield/firewall, are there any other modifications or adapters necessary to make this kit turn-key bolt on?

Asked by: Ken - 4/30/2017
Customer Answer The only other thing you could do is hunt down a Boss 302 Manifold Install Kit or a Boss 302 Purge Valve from a local dealership to avoid having to modify he stock purge valve yourself.

Customer Question Will the BBK 90mm throttle body work with this set up?

Asked by: Harper92 - 10/3/2016
Customer Answer This kit comes standard with a BBK 85mm throttle body, but it can be swapped for a BBK 90mm throttle body, if need be. That being said, the BBK 90mm throttle body can be difficult to dial in and has an on/off type of throttle response, which can negatively effect day-to-day drivability, and 5-Star really only recommends the 85mm version. Still, if you're dead-set on the 90mm throttle body, feel free to give us a call directly at 1-877-578-2433 so we can customize this package for you.

Customer Question Am I reading the info correctly. The phase 3 adds only 10 more HP over the phase 2? Is the only difference between the 2 the boss intake? I thought the intake would add more than 10HP. If you purchase the power train warranty can that be added to the 0% finanance deal, if yes what would the 12 month payment be? Why does the phase 2 void the warranty can't the stock tune be loaded back and and the tuner removed if I need my truck to be serviced at the dealer?

Asked by: Rich - 3/26/2016
Customer Answer 45 horsepower is a conservative estimate based on lower fuel octanes and 5-Star Performance/Tow tunes. Using 93 octane and a 5-Star Race Tune can get you upwards of 50 rear-wheel horsepower over stock. Still, the difference between a truck with bolt-ons and a custom tune and one with a BOSS 302 manifold is going to be that massive when it comes to peak-to-peak power. The real benefit of the Boss manifold is giving the trucks a larger power band and a lot more top-end power than the stock manifold. Our optional Powertrain Warranties are not available for Boss 302 manifolds. Returning your truck to stock is not a guaranteed way to keep tuning or a custom tune undetected, and a given dealership can absolutely refuse to perform powertrain repairs under warranty, if they believe the truck is tuned.

Customer Question Is it true that with this package u can take the 5.0 up to 7k rpm? If so does it risk any problems

Asked by: Michael Petrowsky - 11/15/2015
Customer Answer The Boss Manifold and 5-Star's tuning increase redline to just over 6500 rpm. Going to 7000 rpm may be possible, but also not recommended or even really worth your time, given that power flattens out at 6000 rpm before dropping off. You'd be pushing your engine hard for no real tangible reason.

Asked by: Amy Stanfield - 6/2/2015
Customer Answer While we can swap out the exhaust, it's not the cat-back that makes this kit illegal for street use in California. The tuning device, intake, and Boss manifold are not CARB-approved for street use on the F150's 5.0L V8. Sorry!

Asked by: cory - 3/31/2015
Customer Answer ProCharger's supercharger systems will work with the Boss 302 Manifold (though it does take some finagling to connect the charge tubing) and the other modifications in this package, except the tuning. 5-Star does not currently custom tune for ProCharged trucks. Your better bet would be to call us directly in order to put together a custom package without 5-Star's tuning in order to save you some money while you look locally for a dyno tuner.

Customer Question I really like the sound of the stock exhaust , on the 5.0 "14" . What is the difference in hp and tq with your cat back compared to stock?

Asked by: Cjhice - 12/19/2014
Customer Answer An aftermarket cat-back will only get you something 5-10 hp and 5-10lb-ft of torque peak at the crank, which really isn't all that noticeable driving around. Cat-backs should really only be looked at as a sound improvement. If you do want to keep the stock cat-back, then give us a call directly at 1-877-578-2433, and we can customize this system for you without a cat-back and save you some cash.

Customer Question You say that the Boss 302 manifold will fit on with minor modifications... what sort of modifications are these?

Asked by: Casey - 9/21/2014
Customer Answer While the manifold will bolt up to the engine relatively easily, the Boss 302R manifold is much taller than stock and you'll need to roll your F150's firewall and heat shield back in order to get the rear of the manifold to clear. Not overly difficult, but it does mean a lot of hammering.
