Step-by-Step Guide: Installing Morimoto XB Evo LED Headlights on a Toyota Tacoma or 4Runner

Morimoto has some GREAT and detailed instructions in their kits, but we figured to share how easy this upgrade really is, versus SOME headlights out there!

Tools & Equipment Needed:

• 10mm socket & ratchet
• Trim removal tool or flathead screwdriver
• Phillips-head screwdriver
• Protective gloves (optional)
• Zip ties (for securing wiring)

Step 1: Prepare Your Truck or SUV

• Park your Tacoma (2016-2023) or 4Runner (2014-2024) on a level surface.
• Disconnect the battery (negative terminal) to prevent electrical shorts.
• Open the hood and locate the factory headlight assemblies.

Step 2: Remove the Factory Headlights

1. Remove the grille
   • Use a trim removal tool to carefully detach the plastic clips securing the grille.
   • Pull gently but firmly to release it from the front end.
2. Unbolt the headlight assembly
   • Use a 10mm socket to remove the bolts securing the headlight housing.
   • There may be three or four bolts per side (varies slightly by model).
3. Disconnect the wiring harness
   • Carefully unplug the factory headlight connectors from the back of the headlight assembly.
   • If your vehicle has DRLs or turn signal wiring, unplug those as well.
4. Remove the headlight assembly
   • Pull the headlight straight out from the mounting location.
   • Be mindful of any remaining clips holding the housing in place.

Step 3: Install the Morimoto XB Evo LED Headlights

1. Connect the wiring harness
   • Plug the Morimoto XB Evo wiring harness directly into the factory headlight connectors.
   • Ensure a secure connection to avoid flickering or malfunction.
2. Secure the new headlights
   • Align the XB Evo LED headlights with the factory mounting points.
   • Reinstall the 10mm bolts that secure the headlight in place.
3. Reconnect DRLs & Turn Signals (if applicable)
   • If your Morimoto lights have selectable DRLs (white or amber), follow the included instructions to set your preference.
   • Ensure turn signals and sequential indicators are properly connected.

Step 4: Test the Headlights

1. Reconnect the battery and start your vehicle.
2. Check all functions – Low beams, high beams, DRLs, turn signals, and startup sequence.
3. Adjust the beam pattern if necessary – Most Morimoto headlights are factory-aligned, but if adjustments are needed, use a Phillips-head screwdriver to fine-tune the headlight aim.

Step 5: Reassemble the Front End

• Reinstall the grille and secure it with the original clips.
• Double-check all bolts and wiring connections.
• Use zip ties to tidy up any excess wiring.
